If this weekend's FA Cup final is the last game for Erik ten Hag as manager of Manchester United, former Scotland international Pat Nevin believes Mauricio Pochettino should be considered as the next man in charge at Old Trafford.
It's widely believed that Ten Hag will leave the Red Devils regardless of what happens in Saturday's final against Manchester City, and several high-profile names have been linked with the job.
Nevin thinks Pochettino, who parted ways with Chelsea last week after just one season, deserves a shot at the United post.
Speaking to Spin Genie, Nevin explained that he sees Pochettino as an elite manager despite not meeting expectations at Stamford Bridge.
"Pochettino to Man United? wouldn’t surprise me at all - again, it wouldn’t shock me because he’s a top-level manager who has worked very well in the Premier League before," Nevin said.
"I don’t think his stock has fallen a cent during his time at Chelsea because people in football know the circumstances he was working in.
"He should be in the running - he seems like one of a number of managers who would be a really good fit for Manchester United, but would still have to learn what their outlook will be like under Sir Jim Ratcliffe.
"Maybe they will pursue a similar model to Chelsea, spending a lot of time getting figures like Dan Ashworth. They will have to decide if they want a manager overseeing more, or someone who will focus solely on coaching.
"You look at Pep Guardiola, who has a big team behind him in terms of player acquisitions and the board, and he works well with them. He’s happy to take their knowledge on board, but they will take it back from him as well.
"I’ve been a chief executive and, for me, that is the perfect situation."
