Chelsea are expected to once again be active in the summer transfer market as they attempt to build a squad that can challenge the Premier League's elite.

The Blues are often linked with many potential moves, but one possible transaction has former Chelsea player Pat Nevin expressing doubt.

Speaking to OLBG, Nevin commented on rumours of Chelsea pursuing Manchester City and England star Jack Grealish — a move that Nevin believes would be hard to pull off.

"Seeing as Chelsea have used every accountancy trick in the book that I'm aware of, they must be finding new ones!" Nevin said. "They're going to have to find some new currency tricks and of course, that will be getting rid of some players and offloading some.

"We all hope it's not Conor Gallagher but it may well have to be, you've got [Mykhailo] Mudryk there who someone might take a chance on or maybe even Raheem Sterling.

"But I don't think you're going to get the money that it would take to get Jack Grealish because he’s still in the middle of his career and has done it at a high level. So I don’t see how it works."

Aside from the difficulty of making such a transaction work financially, Nevin said Grealish isn't likely worth the massive amount of money City would ask for in return.

"Jack's form is at a level that I don’t think you would go and spend another £100 million on Jack at the moment, he needs to get back into the habit of beating people," Nevin said.

"He's going up to people stopping and turning back again. When you're going to spend huge sums of money and huge wages on a player and you want them to go beyond people all the time.

"Cole Palmer goes beyond people, so if Grealish starts doing that again he’ll be worth money again. But it would be taking a massive, massive chance if you’re Chelsea and are going to spend that amount of money.

"Having said that, Chelsea take a lot of chances and do like an experiment. I’d be surprised if they did it, but intrigued as well.”
