Old rivals renew hostilities as Peru and Chile face off in both teams' first match of Copa America 2024.
The Peruvians have gotten off to a good start to the year, winning three of four games and drawing the other in the lead-up to this tournament. That's a big turnaround from a winless 2023 for La Bicolor, who are dead last in South American World Cup qualifying as a result.
Not too far ahead of them in the qualiying standings are Chile, who are going through the growing pains expected of a team transitioning from one generation to the next. La Roja have been a shadow of the team that won back-to-back Copa America titles in the middle of the 2010s, but they have the opportunity to set a new standard with a good performance at this summer's tournament.
