The legendary goalkeeper has made his prediction.

Former Manchester United goalkeeper Peter Schmeichel says the Premier League title race will be "a lot tighter" this year.

Manchester City won the title on the last day of the 2023-24 season, beating Arsenal, but those two teams finished seven points above Liverpool - who in turn were 14 points clear of Aston Villa in fourth.

Schmeichel, who won 129 caps for Denmark, believes the top two from last season are the main competitors in this campaign, but says Liverpool have the potential to be in the mix.

Speaking to BBC Radio 5Live, Schmeichel said: "It's going to be a lot more tighter this year.

"I think Arsenal really have a big chance and I’m confused by Liverpool.

"I don’t know about the manager, how it’s going to work, how they’re going to play.

"Liverpool disappointed themselves last season, but they still have the players, they could still be in the mix.

"I think it’s going to be Arsenal and Man City for sure and perhaps Liverpool."

Manchester City begin their title defence away at Chelsea on Sunday, while Liverpool travel to newly-promoted Ipswich Town on Saturday lunchtime.

The Gunners also start their season on Saturday, at home to Wolves.
