The FIFA Club World Cup takes on a new guise this summer, as a revamped tournament will be played out in the USA featuring 32 teams from around the globe.

The best clubs from Europe, Asia, Africa, South America, North America and Oceania will compete in the new-look competition, which will be broadcast live for free on DAZN.

Unsurprisingly, the favourites ahead of proceedings are European heavyweights Manchester City and Real Madrid - the last two Champions League winners - but former Brazilian striker Rodrigo Mendes thinks otherwise.

Mendes, who represented Flamengo and Gremio during his playing days, believes a South American side could have a big say in the tournament this summer.

"Maybe one of the South American teams", Mendes said at the at the launch of the Club World Cup Trophy Tour when asked who he saw as the favourites.

"The calendar is different for the South American clubs and the European clubs and I think if I were to predict one thing, than maybe one of the South American teams can achieve the championship."

His prediction is good news for the six South American teams competing at the Club World Cup - Palmeiras, Flamengo, Fluminense, Botafogo, River Plate and Boca Juniors - but Mendes is excited to see another of his other former clubs compete with the world's best, Asian side Al Ain.

"It's a huge opportunity, a lifetime opportunity for Al Ain," he added.  "We are very excited, and we are preparing ourselves to make a good tournament.

"It's amazing because Al Ain are the biggest team in the UAE and maybe one of the biggest in Asia, and to play here among all the big forces of football is a great opportunity and an amazing feeling to be part of this."
