'A tough ship to sail! - Teddy Sheringham issues Manchester United warning for new boss Ruben AmorimDAZN
The Portuguese is preparing to make the move to the Premier League club later this month, and one club legend has shared his thoughts on his arrival.

Ruben Amorim will need to navigate choppy waters at Manchester United, with Teddy Sheringham warning the incoming manager that it is "a tough ship to sail".

The Portuguese coach will depart Sporting Lisbon to take the reins at Old Trafford during the November international break, as the permanent replacement for Erik ten Hag.

It is the latest managerial turnover at United, who originally stood by the Dutchman following his FA Cup win last season, but now the club must prepare for another new chapter.

Speaking ahead of Amorim's arrival from the Primeira Liga, where he has guided Sporting to multiple triumphs, ex-United star Sheringham shared his hopes for the new man.

"Ruben Amorim has a good record in Portugal, but he’s coming into one of the biggest clubs in the world and it's a tough ship to sail," Sheringham told Flashscore.

"I love his youthfulness and the exuberance that follows him, but we'll have to see what happens in sticky times because it's a tough job to have at such a young age.

"I think Amorim is coming out and saying the right things, but until he's in the hot seat we have no idea what to expect. We do know that Man Utd went out and got their man.

"Erik ten Hag could have gone a lot sooner in a lot of people's eyes.  But they've gone out and got their man now and hopefully he's right for the job."

Amorim will face United's great rivals Manchester City in one of his final games as Sporting boss in the UEFA Champions League on Tuesday.
