The Spaniards easily topped their qualifying group, posting a 6-1-1 record to secure their berth at the upcoming World Cup. Since then, they've continued building towards Qatar 2022 with a good run through the UEFA Nations League, topping Group 2 ahead of Portugal, Czech Republic and Switzerland.
With a healthy mix of veterans and younger players, Spain should be well-positioned to inflict some damage in the quadrennial event. The team's elder statesmen — Sergio Busquets and Jordi Alba — have won major titles with the national side and many of the younger players have found success with Spain's youth teams, which should help provide a baseline of expectations for the team as a whole.

As the golden generation of Spain's early century success continues to fade away, the team will look to evolve in order to remain among the world's elite. A third-place showing at Euro 2020 demonstrated Spain's continued ability to compete at the highest levels, and Qatar will be the next chance for the team to get out from under the considerable shadow of its 2010 World Cup-winning predecessor.

What stadiums will Spain play in at World Cup 2022?
Each of Spain's three group stage matches will be played at a different venue.
Al Thumama Stadium - Spain vs. Costa Rica
The smallest of the venues that Spain will play in during the group stage, the Al Thumama Stadium is probably the most visually unique of the three.
Designed to resemble a traditional taqiyah hat worn by men and boys in the Middle East, the stadium holds 40,000 seats. It officially opened in October 2021, and hosted six FIFA Arab Cup 2021 matches.
Spain vs. Costa Rica will be the second of six group stage matches held at the venue, with a round of 16 and a quarter-final match also scheduled to be played there.
Al Bayt Stadium - Spain vs. Germany
A 60,000-seat venue in Al Khor, the Al Bayt Stadium features a retractable roof and will be reduced in size by nearly half of its seating capacity after the World Cup.
Completed in November 2021, the stadium was used for the opening ceremony of the FIFA Arab Cup 2021. It also hosted five matches durig that tournament, including the final.
At Qatar 2022, the stadium will host six group stage matches and three knockout games, including a semi-final.
Khalifa International Stadium - Japan vs. Spain
Spain's final group stage match will be played at the Khalifa International Stadium in Doha, a 45,416-seat venue that is by far the oldest at Qatar 2022.
Opened in 1976, it's a multipurpose venue that has hosted track and field events as well as football events. The stadium has undergone numerous renovations, including major redevelopments in 2005 and 2017, to increase capacity and amenities.
Major events that have been hosted at the venue include the 2006 Asian Games, 2011 Pan Arab Games, 2019 World Athletics Championships and a pair of 2019 FIFA Club World Cup matches. It will host eight World Cup games, including the third-place match.
