Former Tottenham striker Teddy Sheringham has warned manager Ange Postecoglou that his tactical approach is a dangerous one for the team.
The Australian has drawn praise for his free-flowing, attacking play since taking over in the summer, and they sit just three points outside the top four.
However there have been critics who point out that a lack of defensive discipline has cost Tottenham at times.
One of the examples of that approach is the 4-1 defeat at home to Chelsea, when former manager Mauricio Pochettino’s side earned three points as Tottenham went down to 9 men but kept pressing.
Speaking to the Gambling Zone, Sheringham said: “I absolutely love everything about Ange’s tactical philosophy and the way that he has got his players playing.
“They are knocking the ball about beautifully at the moment, creating lots of opportunities and scoring goals. At the same time, the way Tottenham defended against Chelsea was absolutely kamikaze.
“I can’t explain how I was feeling watching that game; there was no real technical demonstration of the team’s defensive abilities. There were no signs of Ange setting up a team to stop the opponent from playing. It was naughty viewing! That’s all I can say.
“I don’t think Tottenham should go into matches and try and play that kamikaze defensive style again.”
