Former Manchester United striker Teddy Sheringham believes that Plymouth are a big club and Wayne Rooney will need to demonstrate that he has improved as a manager.
Rooney fared well in difficult circumstances at Derby County, but underwhelmed at DC United in the MLS, and then endured a disastrous spell with Birmingham City last season.
He swiftly moved onto the Plymouth Argyle job, and will now start again in the Championship next season.
Speaking to Genting Casino, he said: “I think Plymouth is another great job for Wayne Rooney because not a lot of jobs come around. He's not got the best credentials at the moment, but he wants to keep trying.
“He loves the game and obviously, he wants to test himself and get back to winning ways and climbing up the ladder.
“Hopefully, he's learned what has gone wrong in the past and I wish him all the luck because it’s a very tough career as a manager.
“It's tough down there, especially at the lower levels but Plymouth are a big club down there."
