Ruben Amorim's first match in charge of Manchester United is rapidly approaching, but looming in the distance is the January transfer window, which promises a lot of movement for the Red Devils under their new boss.

Amorim joined United this month after a successful period in charge at Sporting CP, and it's a reasonable assumption that the Portuguese club could be a favoured well of talent for the English side given the 39-year-old's familiarity with their squad.

The hottest commodity currently playing for Sporting is striker Viktor Gyokeres, whose red-hot form has turned heads at the biggest clubs in Europe. United are included in the interested parties as the transfer window approaches, and Amorim's relationship with the Sweden international could give the Premier League side an inside track.

However, renowned football journalist Fabrizio Romano doesn't believe United are prioritising the striker position at the moment and he notes that 26-year-old Gyokeres will have many suitors come January, which could drive Sporting's asking price upwards.

Instead, it could be one of Gyokeres' teammates that is among Amorim's first acquisitions for the Red Devils.

“Viktor Gyokeres is an obvious link but at the moment I'm not aware of any sort of negotiation, as Man United will discuss strikers situation later in the next few months and this is not a current hot topic," Romano told casino.org.

“Remember also that on Gyokeres, there are several clubs keen to do business there. Geovany Quenda is also being monitored by Manchester United scouts, he's considered a top talent, but it’s a little too early to say what might happen next.”

Gyokeres has 23 goals in 18 appearances for Sporting so far this season. Quenda, a 17-year-old right-sided player, has appeared in 17 matches for the Portuguese side, scoring twice.
