Ange Postecoglou called Tottenham's 3-1 win against AFC Bournemouth on New Year's Eve "a battle," and there was a brief period late in the second half when that term could be taken literally.

Spurs grabbed an early lead against the Cherries and never looked back, but on the sidelines things got heated as the game neared an end.

Alejo Veliz was encouraged by Postecoglou to go down for treatment after picking up an injury late in the second half, which led to members of the Bournemouth staff taking exception. Coaches from both sides came together on the sidelines, with some arguing and physical contact between Postecoglou and his Bournemouth counterpart, Andoni Iraola, resulting in a booking for the Spurs boss as well as midfielder Giovani Lo Celso.

The incident was an added bit of spice to a match that had already been decided, and after the final whistle Postecoglou addressed the melee with tongue firmly planted in cheek.

When asked by Sky Sports what kicked off the commotion and if any words were exchanged with his Cherries counterpart, Postecoglou said: "We all just came together to wish each a Happy New Year, mate, and make some resolutions."
