The new look Champions League completed its first tournament phase on Wednesday night with the league stage coming to a close.
There was a lot of jeopardy on the line for the majority of teams, most notably Manchester City who had to beat Club Brugge to land a place in the knockout stage.
The next stage of the Champions League takes place in a couple of weeks with the new play-off round.
DAZN News explains how this new round works and when it will take place.
How will the Champions League play-off round work?
The top eight teams from the league phase have already secured their places in the Round of 16, while the teams positioned 25th to 36th have been eliminated from the tournament altogether.
Teams which finished 9th to 24th will enter the playoff round with a spot in the Round of 16 at stake. Teams ranked 9th to 16th will be seeded for the playoffs and their opponents will be confirmed during a draw on Friday, January 31.
2024/25 UEFA Champions League play-off round fixture dates
The draw, which takes place on Friday, will confirm the eight play-off matches and then fixture dates will be confirmed.
The fixtures will be contested over two legs, and the prospective dates can be found below.
- First leg: 11/12 February
- Second leg: 18/19 February
