Viktor Gyokeres should be a target for Manchester United, with Andy Cole suggesting the Sporting star's time in the Championship is proof he can flourish in the Premier League.
The Sweden international has been a key part of Ruben Amorim's side since he arrived in 2023 and was named Primeira Liga Player of the Year in a title-winning season.
Before that, Gyokeres had starred for Coventry City in the Championship, earning selection to the 2022/23 EFL Championship Team of the Season for his efforts.
With Amorim headed to United this month as the successor to Erik ten Hag, former Red Devils favourite Cole has explained why one of his key assets could flourish there too.
"Gyokeres has moved from the Championship to a league abroad and has excelled, so I do ask myself sometimes whether the gap is actually that big," Cole told Betfred.
"I don’t believe it is. The Championship is a difficult league at the best of times, so if you can score goals there, then you should be able to go abroad and do the same.
"If they want to sign him, then should he come to Manchester United. That decision, however, will be down to the manager and finances."
United have spent heavily in transfer windows under successive managers, including a €95 million deal for Antony following Ten Hag's arrival at the club.
Several of these signings have failed to deliver the desired impact however, though some such as defender Harry Maguire have rebuilt their reputations during their tenure.
