The 2022 World Cup is rapidly closing in, but the 2026 edition of the tournament is ramping up already as FIFA prepares to announce which cities will host the matches.

Games will be spread across three countries: Mexico, Canada, and the United States, as all of North America, is represented in a joint project in four years time. While all three Mexican host cities are guaranteed to be picked, Toronto and Vancouver are certain to host games, while Edmonton's inclusion is yet to be confirmed.

Ten US cities are expected to be picked, but that could stretch to 12, with Edmonton potentially missing out.

This evening, at 5pm ET, 10pm BST, FIFA will confirm which cities are to host World Cup games.

"During the past months we have had open exchanges with the candidate host cities on a number of different topics," Colin Smith, FIFA's Chief Tournaments & Events Officer, said in May.

"We are very thankful and impressed by how dedicated and innovative they all are.

"The host cities will be absolutely key to ensuring the successful delivery of the competition. We look forward to working with them to deliver what will undoubtedly be the largest FIFA World Cup in history."
