If there is one thing no one saw coming in the new-look UEFA Champions League, it was Manchester City finishing towards the bottom of the play-off places.

So far the 2024/25 campaign has been a disastrous one for Pep Guardiola's side and the team went into the final round of games in the Champions League league phase needing a win over Club Brugge to stay in the competition.

Despite going 1-0 down at the end of the first half, goals from Mateo Kovacic and Savinho along with an own goal from Brugge's Raphael Onyedika secured the 3-1 win for City.

While it was a positive for City to advance to the next stage of European club football's biggest tournament, what lies ahead is a huge test in the play-off round is a huge test
