Wolfsburg got the big result they required on Thursday, defeating Chelsea 4-0 to secure advancement to the quarterfinals of the 2021-22 UEFA Women's Champions League.
Thursday's match was on the final day of group-stage play, with three teams from Group A still vying for the two available berths. Along with Juventus, Wolfsburg and Chelsea were all in with a chance at the knockout stages, with the English club in the driver's seat as just a draw would have been enough.
However, the German side had other plans. Needing nothing less than a victory, Wolfsburg attacked from the outset and broke the deadlock early, scoring in the 16th minute via Svenja Huth.
They kept their foot on the pedal and doubled their lead seven minutes later as Huth struck again, then Tabea Wassmuth added two more in the second half as the hosts gave their visitors no hope of mounting any kind of comeback.
Wolfsburg's outburst propelled them to the top of the group, with Juventus right behind. Despite having the same number of points as the top two, Chelsea now find themselves in third place of Group A and out of the Women's Champions League due to their head-to-head record with the German and Italian clubs.
PSG, Real Madrid and Juventus claim home victories
As was the case in Wednesday's matches, every home side came away winners on Thursday.
Paris Saint-Germain were the most dominant of the four victors, running up a 6-0 score against visiting Breidablik. The Parisians end the group stage with six wins, after Jordyn Huitema's double led the way against the Icelanders.
In Group B's other match, Real Madrid defeated WFC Zhytlobud-1 Kharkiv 3-0 on goals by Babett Peter, Maite Oroz and Esther Gonzalez. Madrid advance to the quarterfinals as the second-place finisher behind PSG.
Finally, while Wolfsburg were dispatching of Chelsea, Juventus claimed a needed 4-0 win over Servette to secure qualification to the quarters. Juve allowed just two shots on target against the Swiss side.
