Germany enter the 2023 FIFA Women's World Cup as the second-ranked team in the world, with only the United States above them.
The Germans won back-to-back WWC titles in 2003 and 2007, but their results since then have been underwhelming for a team of their stature. A disappointing quarter-final exit on home soil in 2011 was followed up by a fourth-place finish at Canada 2015. They then exited in the quarters in the 2019 World Cup, a poor result that was reinforced by their failure to even qualify for the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games.
However, things are looking up against for the Greman program, and an appearance in the final of the 2022 UEFA Women's Championship points towards brighter skies ahead. With such high hopes, Germany should cruise through the group stage, leaving Morocco, South Korea and Colombia to fight over the other knockout-round berth from Group H.
Recent form dictates that the Koreans and Colombians will battle it it for second place in the group, although both teams enter the tournament with mixed results so far this year.
