The Davis Cup Finals is underway this week, November 19 to November 24, as six nations battle it out for world glory.

The 2024 event has taken on even bigger significance as it is the setting for Rafael Nadal's final tournament before he retires from the sport. 

The tennis legend has been competing as part of the Spanish team alongside teammate Carlos Alcarez in Malaga, Spain. However they were beaten in Tuesday's first quarter-final by the Netherlands 2-1.

Meanwhile Germany progressed to the semi-finals with a 2-0 victory over Canada, while Australia and Italy have all moved into the last four.

How does the Davis Cup Finals work?

The knockout round of the Davis Cup sees eight teams paired off against each other and play in three games in a best-of-three format. 

The quarter-final stage has two singles matches and a doubles match. The team that earns the most victories advances through to the semi-finals, where the format is repeated.
