Sting has promised to unveil his and Darby Allin’s partner on this week’s AEW Collision, but who will the charismatic superstar go for?
DAZN looks at a number of options that are currently available ahead of Forbidden Door 2 this Sunday where Sting, Darby, and their mystery ally will face The Jericho Appreciation Society and Minoru Suzuki.
Shingo Takagi
Could the former IWGP heavyweight champion be about to assist Sting and Darby Allin once more?
At last year’s Forbidden Door, Shingo Takagi was a useful ally to AEW’s leading mentor and student partnership as he helped the pair secure a win against El Phantasmo and The Young Bucks in a solid contest.
Sting is fully aware of what Shingo can add to his team and with the trio already proving they know what it takes to win, Shingo could be the ideal selection for The Icon.
Tetsuya Naito
If Sting wants to delve into NJPW’s recent history to find someone who knows Chris Jericho well then the obvious pick would be Tetsuya Naito.
Following Jericho’s stunning rivalry with Kenny Omega in NJPW, the former WWE and AEW world champion switched his attention to Naito as he attacked the Japanese star on multiple occasions.
Matches between the pair delivered well and with Sting looking to hurt Jericho’s chances in this match, Naito is the man to choose after he scored a decisive win over ‘The Ocho’ in 2018 at Wrestle Kingdom 13 in 2019.
Goldberg
Could Sting look closer to home for a partner? Bill Goldberg is currently a free agent and Sting knows him well from their time together in WCW.
Goldberg joining AEW would be seen as a huge deal but would a six-man tag match away from the main event scene be the right setting for what could be an unforgettable debut?
Andrade El Idalo
Back on AEW TV following a lengthy hiatus, Andrade looked mightily impressive when scoring a win over Buddy Matthews on the pilot episode of Collision.
With Sting forever connected to Ric Flair and Andrade being the partner of Flair’s daughter, Charlotte, could Sting call in a favour from his old friend for one night only?
This seems a longshot with Andrade seemingly set to have his summer dominated against the House of Black, but Sting could do a lot worse than recruit the highly rated Mexican.
