CM Punk endured his first loss since returning to AEW after his team were outsmarted on the final television show before Forbidden Door.
Teaming up with FTR and Ricky Starks in Toronto, Canada, Punk’s squad went down to Jay White, Juice Robinson, and The Gunns, but it might be the welcome that greeted Punk that makes all the headlines.
Making his 2023 bow in Chicago last week on the debut episode of Collision, Punk was given a hero's greeting but the reception north of the border was a lot more hostile.
With The Elite one of AEW’s most popular acts, Punk’s conflict with them in 2022 was bound to disappoint some wrestling supporters and those in Canada made their feelings clear.
Despite the boos, Punk bought into the reaction and although he had some support early in the match, by the end of it, the crowd was firmly against him.
Is this the beginning of a heel turn for Punk?
The focus now turns to Forbidden Door 2 when Punk faces Satoshi Kojima and all eyes will be on the Canadian crowd and how they treat the former two-time AEW world champion.
