In celebration of the 25th anniversary of their startling Hell in a Cell match, Undertaker and Mick Foley recently sat down to replay the industry-changing bout.
And when they did, both legends made a shocking revelation about Terry Funk's role in the match.
After Foley was chokeslammed through the cell and laid motionless on the mat, Funk came into the ring to become a buffer between his mangled friend and Undertaker. However, Foley revealed that Funk's role was actually way more vital than that.
"Terry Funk by this point has walked up to you. Terry said your words were 'see if he's alive,'" Foley said to Taker with WWE cameras filming.
"Terry comes back, he looks like he's just haphazardly touching my face but he's actually taking my pulse. He comes back to you and says 'he's still breathing.' "
Of course, Funk received a chokeslam of his own from the Undertaker as a thanks. And the notorious match went on to see Foley's Mankind character get chokeslammed onto hundreds of thumb tacks sprawled out into the ring next. That was the final jaw-dropping, head-scratching moment following Undertaker chucking Foley off the cage onto the ring announcer's table to start the bout and then chokeslamming him through the cell moments later.
Their sitdown conversation also had Undertaker expressing shock from the cell fence giving way and Foley crashing down into the ring, looking like the victim of a car crash.
"As I was standing up there before, I didn't know whether you were still with us or not," Undertaker revealed to Foley.
"I've seen a lot of things in our wrestling business before and since but I have never been that scared in my life."
The iconic match took place June 28, 1998 as part of the King of the Ring event at the Civic Arena in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, and remains etched in wrestling lore.
