Lex Luger is hoping to see Cody Rhodes finish his story and take on Roman Reigns in the main event of WrestleMania 40.
The American Nightmare had been expected to face Reigns in a rematch from last year's WrestleMania at the showpiece in Philadelphia this April, however, his path to becoming the Undisputed WWE Universal Champion could be blocked by a return from The Rock.
The People's Champion made a shock appearance on Raw at the start of the month and hinted at a match with Reigns, which would most likely take place on WWE's grandest stage leaving Rhodes wondering if he'll once again miss out on ending WrestleMania with the gold around his waist.
Talking on his Lex Expressed Podcast, former WWE Superstar Luger is still hopeful for Rhodes, who he believes could be the face of the company for years to come.
"Cody, I think he's so deserving of getting that shot again," said Lex.
"Maybe I am biased. I love Cody. I really love his work. I love everything about him. I think he'd be a great babyface Champion that could carry them for many years. Then again, with TKO now involved in the decision-making process, can you turn down The Rock?
"I think Cody should be the guy. Me personally, my personal preference, I think [Cody Rhodes vs. Roman Reigns at WWE WrestleMania 40] would be an amazing matchup, rematch."
Despite championing Cody, Luger concedes that the decision may come down to whether the Rock wants the match or not.
"If The Rock says he wants to come to WrestleMania and wrestle Roman, almost as a company — he's a global superstar, not just in wrestling, but a global pop culture movie star. So, I can't imagine the people in charge now saying, 'Well, thanks but no thanks, Rock.' So I think that it's really going to be in The Rock's hands almost when you think about it."
