How does the voting work?
This year sees a change in the voting process which is now based on a player's achievements during the 2021/22 season instead of a calendar year.
A journalist from each of the top 100 nations in the FIFA world rankings is then asked to select their top five players from the 30-man shortlist and points are awarded for the following positions.
- First place: Six points
- Second place: Four points
- Third place: Three points
- Fourth place: Two points
- Fifth place: One point
If players are tied on overall points, the number of first-place votes serves as the tie-breaker.
