Drew McIntyre is not the man to end Roman Reigns’ incredible run as he failed to dethrone the Tribal Chief at Clash at the Castle at Wales’ Principality Stadium.
With the home crowd behind him, including WBC heavyweight boxing champion, Tyson Fury, McIntyre came agonizingly close, but the arrival of Solo Sikoa ensured Reigns kept his belt.
The pair were involved in several meaty exchanges, and as the contest hit the final stretch, it was still up in the air who would emerge victorious.
Austin Theory’s entrance gave the crowd a huge lift, but before the Money in the Bank holder could cash in his briefcase, he was taken out by Fury, who ensured that Theory wouldn’t exploit both stricken wrestlers.
Following a well-timed Claymore, it looked like Reigns’ time as champion was up with the sold-out crowd ready to applaud their new champion.
Sikoa, the younger brother of The Usos,’ appeared from under the ring and halted the count. That allowed Reigns to take advantage as he took out McIntyre to keep his title.
In the fight’s aftermath, McIntyre was joined in the ring by Fury, with some believing the next angle in the Scot’s career was about to take place.
Instead, Fury serenaded the audience with a version of Don McClean’s American Pie before congratulating McIntyre for his efforts.
