David Benavidez doesn't like Caleb Plant's chances against Saul 'Canelo' Alvarez if the two wind up fighting in September.
Appearing on a recent episode of "Hotboxin' with Mike Tyson," the former two-time WBC world super middleweight champion told the boxing legend that Canelo will definitively defeat Plant if the two clash for a shot at undisputed glory.
"I feel like he stops Caleb Plant," Benavidez told Tyson. "I think (Canelo's) going to press, put too much pressure on him and Caleb Plant is going to choke.
"(Plant) don't got the power to keep him off of him," he continued. "Twelve knockouts in (21) fights ... come on."
While the sweet science skills of Plant (21-0, 12 KOs) have been heralded, Benavidez doesn't think "Sweethands" possesses enough power to make Alvarez respect him in the ring.
"The type of people that could actually give Canelo problems are the ones who have power and the ones who will actually sit there and fight," Benavidez stated. "Not the ones that are going to run around and make it to the 12th round. You have to actually sit there and fight and you have to go through hell.
"Caleb Plant is not going to be able to keep him off him. You need power."
That's precisely why Benavidez (24-0, 21 KOs) believes he'd fare a lot better against Canelo than Plant.
"We got the same style. We're coming forward. I don't back down from nobody," said the 24-year-old, drawing a comparison between himself and Alvarez. "Every time I hit, every time I throw a shot, I'm trying to hurt you with that shot."
If negotiations for Canelo-Plant dissipate, Benavidez will gladly agree to challenge the IBF titleholder, as the two have traded verbal jabs in the past.
"I'll beat his ass," Benavidez vowed to Tyson about Plant. "That's the fight I've been wanting for a long time, man. He talks like he's a killer, but looking at his record, he has (21) fights, (12) knockouts, so he's really not like that. So, that's the one guy I really want to get in there and knock his ass out."
