The defending World Cup champions are just one step away from once again playing for the trophy as France have advanced to the semifinals at Qatar 2022.

Standing in their way are Morocco, Africa's first-ever semifinalists at a World Cup, who have taken down some impressive opposition in their run to the penultimate round of the knockout stage. The Moroccans bucked most predictions and topped Group F, which included No. 2-ranked Belgium and 2018 World Cup runners-up Croatia, and followed that up with a penalty shoot-out victory over Spain in the last 16 and a thrilling 1-0 win over Portugal in the quarterfinals.

Now the Moroccans face their fiercest test yet, as the French have seemingly gotten better throughout the tournament and look primed for a run to the final.

If Morocco are to pull off another stunning upset, their defence will play a huge part. The African side have conceded just once in Qatar — in the group stage to Canada — and will need that sturdiness at the back to continue against a France team that have scored two or more goals in all but one of their World Cup matches so far.

A 60,000-seat venue in Al Khor, the Al Bayt Stadium features a retractable roof and will be reduced in size by nearly half of its seating capacity after the World Cup.

Completed in November 2021, the stadium was used for the opening ceremony of the FIFA Arab Cup 2021. It also hosted five matches during that tournament, including the final.

At Qatar 2022, the stadium will host six group stage matches and three knockout games, including a semi-final.
