Manchester United has advanced to the 2020-21 FA Cup's quarterfinals thanks to an extra-time goal by Scott McTominay.

The midfielder struck in the 97th minute against West Ham on Tuesday, securing a 1-0 victory for the Red Devils.

Neither side could breakthrough in the first half, with United coming closest after a Victor Lindelof header deflected off a West Ham defender and forced a terrific reaction save from Lukasz Fabianski, with the ball still grazing the post after the save was made.

The Red Devils dominated possession in the opening 45 minutes, but Lindelof's effort was the best look at goal either side would have.

The second half played out much like the first, with United dominating but only getting a single clean look on goal. In the 53rd minute, Fabianski did well to come off his line and stop a shot by Marcus Rashford to deny the hosts' best (and only) chance of the half.

Even with manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer bringing in big guns Bruno Fernandes and Edinson Cavani towards the end of the 90 minutes, United couldn't muster a sustained attack as the Hammers remained steadfast despite conceding most of the play. With zero shots on goal of their own, West Ham did enough to force extra time.

With 90 minutes already in the books, the fresh legs of the substitutes would come into play. While Fernandes and Cavani didn't find the scoresheet, they were both involved in the build-up to fellow late-comer McTominay's deciding strike.

Anthony Martial, Rashford, Fernandes, and Cavani all touched the ball before McTominay pounced at the top of the box and hit a low drive into the back of the West Ham net.
