Report: Edgar Berlanga to receive six-month suspension, fine due to biting incidentTop Rank
Edgar Berlanga admitted he 'got a little carried away' when he attempted to bite Alexis Angulo in his unanimous decision win on Saturday evening. Now, Berlanga is going to pay the price for his action.

Sources have told DAZN that the New York State Athletic Commission will suspend Berlanga for six months and will be fined $10,000. The suspension is from June 11, the date of the fight, to December 11. ESPN first reported about the punishment.

On his way to victory, in the seventh round, Berlanga tried to bite the left side of Angulo's neck and shoulder area. However, the referee didn't give Berlanga a warning nor a deduction of a point for his actions.

"I want to apologize for my actions and what I said yesterday about the Mike Tyson bite," Berlanga said in a statement on Sunday from his Twitter page about the joke he made about Tyson's infamous bite of Evander Holyfield's ear in their June 1997 rematch. "I was in the moment and got a little ahead of myself. It doesn’t take away from the embarrassment that I have caused upon myself, my team, top ranks, and many others.

"I reacted poorly and take full responsibility. Moving forward, I am going to be more mindful and encouraging in my behavior. Once again, I do apologize."
