Frank Sanchez is setting his sights high following his latest win.

On Saturday night, Sanchez passed the latest test of his career as he outpointed Christian Hammer. The Cuban contender was in control from the start of the bout, and he emphasised his dominance late on as he dropped the German veteran in the final session. 

Trained by Eddy Reynoso, Sanchez has clearly benefited from sharing a gym with a number of high-profile operators including Canelo Alvarez and Andy Ruiz. 

There are big expectations for Sanchez to compete at the business end of the heavyweight division and Sanchez is confident he does well there after making bold predictions regarding Tyson Fury and Oleksandr Usyk.  

“I knock him out easily. He has no boxing skills,” said Sanchez when asked about Tyson Fury by <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tLI9KIAG7rI&t=113s">ESNEWS</a>.

On Usyk, the 29-year-old added: “Even easier. Usyk has movement but he doesn’t have the technique that I do.”

Quite arguably, the lightweight division is the new glamour division of boxing. 

The 135-pound weight class is led by three-belt champion George Kambosos Jr. and WBC titlist Devin Haney. Following them are Vasiliy Lomachenko, Gervonta Davis, and Ryan Garcia. Four of the five competed in a two-week span from Nov. 27-Dec. 11. 
 
Two days after Thanksgiving, Kambosos upset Teofimo Lopez to win the IBF, WBA (super), and WBO belts. One week later, Haney dominated Jo Jo Diaz to retain the WBC strap. The following day, Davis got everything he could handle from Issac Cruz but hung on to a decision win. Lastly, Lomachenko battered Richard Commey for 12 rounds to also win a decision. Garcia is the only one who didn't compete as he's recovering from wrist surgery.

Out of the five, who is the best fighter? Garcia takes himself out of the equation since he hasn't fought since a stoppage win over Luke Campbell in January 2021. However, "KingRy" says it isn't close out of the remaining four.

Then you got George, who fought well. Loma No. 1. Then I would say Kambosos No. 2 and Devin and Tank a toss-up. They both had pretty mediocre performances.” 
 
What was it about Lomachenko's performance that impressed Garcia the most? 
 
“Lomachecnko just fights so pure with his movement, and he doesn’t waste any energy," Garcia said. "He flows, and he has the footwork, his body positioning. He fought amazing, but he should have knocked (Commey) out.

“I guess it’s good to care about the fighter but maybe just finish him off,” Garcia said. “It’s actually better if he would have just finished him instead of keep beating on him. He should have just finished him, and then he would have given him less punishment.” 
 
A Garcia-Lomachenko fight would be massive. But, before that can happen, Garcia needs at least a fight before entertaining the thought of facing the two-time Olympic gold medalist. Despite that, it doesn't stop Garcia from thinking about it. 
 
“I think that’s a huge fight, me versus Lomachenko," Garcia admits. "But I would love to fight Lomachenko as well. I think he’s a great fighter."

WBC world heavyweight champion Tyson Fury is finally set to fight in the UK after a four-year absence, with March being touted as a potential window.

In terms of an opponent, it looked like mandatory challenger and WBC interim champion Dillian Whyte would finally get his shot at the iconic green and gold belt. Unfortunately, however, the WBC seems to have jeopardized the prospect of an all-British heavyweight showdown after announcing the splits for this particular contest.

According to the sanctioning body’s rules, the champion should receive 55 percent of the purse, while the interim challenger will be given 45 percent. This, in theory, should make negotiations relatively easy, but this is boxing, and more often than not, rules aren’t followed.

Following a meeting between the WBC and Top Rank, Fury’s US promoter, the sanctioning body approved the decision to make the split for this fight 80/20 in Fury’s favor.

When reports first emerged of the split, boxing fans were rightly outraged but not surprised as this sort of thing has become all too common within the sweet science.

Of course, Fury should pocket more of the purse. He is the champion, the more prominent name, and will be the one who will drive the majority of PPV sales on whatever platform this fight lands on, but Whyte should feel insulted by the agreed split.

Over the past few years, much has been made about the Body Snatcher’s 1000+ day reign as the number one challenger for the WBC belt. A knockout loss to Alexander Povetkin at Fight Camp in August 2019 was a bump in the road, but Whyte’s victory in the rematch seven months later thrusted him straight back into the world title picture.

Last October, a clash with former Fury foe Otto Wallin was scheduled for Whyte. Still, a shoulder injury to the 33-year-old resulted in the cancellation of the fight as he awaited a call to face the Gypsy King following his win against Deontay Wilder earlier that month.

Following a legal case between the WBC and Whyte, the fight was finally ordered with the controversial 80/20 split.

If the fight doesn’t get made, some will throw accusations of ‘ducking’ at Whyte after he has called out the holder of the WBC belt, whether it be Fury or Wilder before him, numerous times. But instead of venting frustration towards the fighters, fans should instead criticize the numerous sanctioning bodies, which often make the sport of boxing a laughing stock.

In this particular case, the WBC has bypassed its own rules, which are available to read on its website to favor its champion. If a fighter is considered a major star and holds a WBC belt, more often than not, the sanctioning body will bend the rules to satisfy their own monetary gains.

The WBC is not the only sanctioning body that is ruining the sport. The WBA, for example, have a never-ending sprawl of world titles and has often become a figure of fun whenever a fight involving one of their belts is on the line.

The frequent changing of rules to favor certain fighters, constant creation of meaningless world titles, and certain figures within the sport having too much power are three of just the many problems with boxing.

There have been calls for a world governing body to clean up the sport, which would be the ideal solution. But, unfortunately, boxing is already too fragmented, and politics will make this proposed idea a classic example of ‘easier said than done’.

In the end, if the sport is going to be more respected amongst the casuals, it’ll have to come down to the fighters themselves to make a stand against those who ruin the sport, whether it be vacating titles or refusing to abide by some of the ludicrous rules used by the sanctioning bodies.

Unfortunately, it’s tough to see Fury and Whyte agreeing to an 80/20 split in this particular instance. Fury will want the majority of the money generated, while Whyte seeks his fair share after what has been a long journey to his first world title shot.

This lack of movement on negotiations will most likely result in purse bids scheduled for Jan. 11, and that’s when it all starts to get a little more interesting.

There is, however, one person who stands in the way of allowing Paul to face the stars of MMA, UFC President Dana White.

The two have been embroiled in a heated war of words ever since Paul's professional boxing career began to gain momentum, and on New Year's Day, the 24-year-old posted a list of demands for White on social media.

Anthony Joshua's rematch with WBA, WBO, and IBF world heavyweight champion Oleksandr Usyk is one of this year's most anticipated fights, but what does Joshua need to do if he wants to become a three-time world heavyweight champion?

In the eyes of Deontay Wilder's trainer Malik Scott, the Olympic gold medallist needs to impose himself on the Ukrainian and take a more aggressive approach.

"He [Anthony Joshua] can't be that big and have the ability to impose himself and not impose himself on one of the smallest fighters he's ever fought," Scott told <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N9A8yjo-wzs">ESNews</a>.

"This is the perfect time for him to use his good positioning, his size, his strength that he's blessed with physically and mentally."

During his points loss to Usyk last year, Joshua's strategy received plenty of criticism from fans and experts. Instead of using his explosive punching power, Joshua tried to outbox the Ukrainian, and it completely backfired with Usyk giving the 32-year-old Brit a boxing lesson.

But while there are ways to beat Usyk, Scott claims Joshua may be coming up against a fighter who may have his number.

"I think Joshua might be dealing with someone who has his number. I don't think this is Andy Ruiz where you can just fight off the back foot and win," Scott said. "I think Usyk may have AJ's number, and if I was a betting man, I would bet that the rematch would be more interesting, but I still would go for Usyk for the victory."

In heavyweight boxing, one punch can change everything, and that certainly was the case Saturday at the Seminole Hard Rock and Casino in Hollywood, Fla.

It looked like the curtain was slowly falling on the career of Cuban heavyweight Luis Ortiz after being sent to the canvas twice by Charles Martin. Still, the 42-year-old turned the tables and knocked out the former world champion in round six to secure the victory.

An overhand left from Martin sent Ortiz down in the first before a counter jab in round four saw the Cuban on the ring floor once again.

Ortiz then went on the offensive in round six.

The man known as 'King Kong' threw a double jab followed by an overhand left which stunned Martin and left the southpaw an easy target for Ortiz.

Martin collapsed and found himself tied up in the ropes, which spelled the beginning of the end for the former IBF champion. Ortiz then went to work on the American, focusing on the body before an uppercut put Martin down for a second time and brought the bout to an end at 1:37 in the sixth. 

This was Ortiz's second successive win after being knocked out by Deontay Wilder in 2019, and he is now the mandatory challenger for Oleksandr Usyk's IBF title.

There was also a win for promising heavyweight Frank Sanchez, who beat late replacement Christian Hammer via unanimous decision.

Anthony Joshua and Oleksandr are expected to meet in a three-belt unification rematch in the spring, while Tyson Fury and Dillian Whyte are likely to fight somewhere in that same time frame. The winners could meet in an undisputed heavyweight title later in 2022.  
 
That leaves Luis Ortiz and Charles Martin no man's land when they square off on New Year's Day from the Hard Rock Live at Seminole Hard Rock Hotel and Casino in Hollywood, Fla.  
 
Ortiz (32-2, 27 KOs) has been a fixture atop heavyweight rankings for years, with his only defeats coming in memorable contests against former longtime heavyweight champion Deontay Wilder. "King Kong" returns for the first time since a November 2020 first-round knockout over Alexander Flores. 
 
Meanwhile, Martin (28-2-1, 25 KOs) is a former IBF heavyweight champion. After losing his title to Anthony Joshua in April 2016, Martin has won five of his last six fights, with all of his wins coming inside the distance. But, like Ortiz, Martin is coming off of a significant layoff. He hasn't fought since a sixth-round stoppage win over Gerald Washington in February 2020 on the Tyson Fury-Deontay Wilder 2 undercard.  
 
Something has to give. Ortiz and Martin are in dire need of a win to keep their hopes of a future heavyweight title shot.

Pro wrestling fans were salivating when Roman Reigns and Brock Lesnar locked horns at October's Crown Jewel for the Universal championship. 
 
In a back-and-forth slugfest, the match came down to Reigns and Lesnar on the mat and former advocate for the latter and the special counsel to the Samoan didn't know which guy to help. Torn between both, Heyman slid the belt inside the middle of the ring. After a tug of war that resulted in Lesnar being moments away from regaining the belt, Reigns' cousins and members of The Bloodline, The Usos, attacked "The Beast" and helped their cousin retain the title. The following night on SmackDown, Lesnar attacked Reigns, The Usos, WWE personal. His actions forced WWE official Adam Pearce to suspend Lesnar indefinitely. Lesnar went beserk and delivered a beating to Pearce, which resulted in a $1 million fine. The punishment didn't last long as Lesnar returned on the Dec. 3 edition of SmackDown and set his sights on a rematch with Reigns.  
 
Before Sami Zayn faced Reigns on the same show, Lesnar convinced Zayn to take the match that evening. WWE official Sonya Deville declared Lesnar would face the winner at Day 1. Lesnar pummeled Zayn before the bout started. Reigns strolled down, picked up the scraps to retain the gold, and now will meet Lesnar on New Year's Day in the main event of Day 1. But there's an added twist.  
 
On the Dec. 17 edition of SmackDown, Reigns made his return to the show after being gone the previous week. That show featured Lesnar and Heyman being chummy like when they were together in the past. Reigns questioned Heyman's loyalty to him and believed he orchestrated Lesnar's return and moonlighted on Lesnar's behalf. Heyman told Reigns it was done to protect him from Lesnar. Reigns didn't want to hear any of it and fired Heyman and delivered a Superman Punch. He was about to beat Heyman with a chair before Lesnar's music hit, took care of The Usos, and hit a massive F5 on Reigns to close the show. 
 
Reigns and Lesnar are no strangers to one another. They have squared off in the main events of WrestleMania 31, WrestleMania 34, and SummerSlam 2018.  
 
Lesnar returned after 16-months hiatus at SummerSlam in August when he confronted Reigns and Heyman after Reigns beat John Cena in the show's main event.  
 
It's hard to predict which way WWE will lean in terms of a winner as it would appear this won't be the last time we see this matchup.

The British Boxing Board of Control have suspended boxing in January in response to the coronavirus pandemic. 

They had previously suspended boxing during other waves of the pandemic, and this latest move takes place as Britain experiences record numbers of cases due to the Omicron variant.

Suspending boxing is intended to reduce the demand placed upon medical services. The suspension will hit a number of fights, including Chris Eubank Jr’s fight against Liam Williams, which had been due to take place on January 29.

The board released a statement confirming the decision, with a later review to consider the suspension of activity in February.

"Following advice from the British Boxing Board of Control Medical Panel, Boxing tournaments under the jurisdiction of the BBBofC will be suspended for the month of January," the statement began.

"A further review by the Medical Panel and Stewards will take place prior to the planned recommencement of Boxing in February."

British Boxing Board of Control suspends all boxing in January due to coronavirus pandemic

Ryan Garcia has renewed calls for a fight with Isaac Cruz in the new year.

Garcia last fought in December 2020 against Luke Campbell, and had two fights lined up in 2021, neither of which came to pass.

The undefeated Californian had been due to take on Javier Fortuna to defend his interim WBC championship in July, but had to withdraw in order to “manage his health and well being.”  

He was then moved into a match-up with JoJo Diaz for November, but that was postponed when he suffered a hand injury.

Garcia had previously talked up a bout with Gervonta ‘Tank’ Davis but the multi-division title winner’s previous opponent, Cruz, may now be his next fight. 

The 23-year-old American has already called for a fight with Cruz as he plans for his return after more than a year away from the ring, and has again pushed for the fight.

'Sign the contract' - Ryan Garcia wants Isaac Cruz fight

Charles Martin wants revenge for his defeat to Anthony Joshua, and believes the Briton’s loss to Oleksandr Usyk was ‘karma’.

Joshua won the IBF belt from Martin in 2016, making Martin’s 85-day reign as champion the second shortest in history.

Martin claims he had an injury going into the fight and told <a href="https://www.skysports.com/boxing/news/12183/12494945/prince-charles-martin-on-fighting-luis-ortiz-and-watching-anthony-joshuas-loss-what-goes-around-comes-around-8211-karma" target="_blank">Sky Sports</a> that something similar may have happened to Joshua before his defeat to Andy Ruiz Jr.

"Rumours spread that the dude was hurt," Martin said. "I was hurt [before I fought Joshua].

"What goes around comes around. It's called karma.

"I looked bad against Joshua when I was already hurt. Then he got caught by Andy when he was already hurt. Karma.

"I'll never know, and the world will never know, what would have happened against Joshua if I wasn't badly hurt 10 days before our fight.

"Andy got a lucky punch. Andy has no pop. He's fast but has no power."

The 35-year-old heavyweight hopes that he will avenge his defeat to Joshua.

"It will happen. He's also got two Ls now. It ain't for nothin'. It ain't for the money,” he explained.

"You get one up on me? I'll see you later. I'm from St Louis - if you get one up on me, I'll come back around the block and get one up on you!”

Charles Martin wants revenge on Anthony Joshua, says his defeat was 'karma'

Joe Smith Jr. wants to fight Artur Beterbiev, Dmitriy Bivol and Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez at light heavyweight. 

The 32-year-old is the WBO champion after winning the vacant belt back in April against Maxim Vlasov, and fights Callum Johnson on January 15 in a defence of his title.

The American fought WBA title holder Bivol in 2019 and came off second best, but believes he is much improved now. 

Speaking to <a href="https://www.forbes.com/sites/joshkatzowitz/2021/12/31/joe-smith-jr-talks-about-fighting-covid-callum-johnson-and-maybe-canelo/?sh=7af2a484191d" target="_blank">Forbes</a>, he said: “I still look at myself as an underdog until I beat everybody. I want to get the fight with Beterbiev and with Bivol again to show I am now the best. I had a rough fight with Bivol the first time. I believe I wasn’t the same person I am now. 

“After fighting him, I learned a lot. I’ve had so much competition since then.” 

He also said that in order to make sure he is financially comfortable, he needs to stay in the sport, and is even hoping for a fight against undisputed super middleweight champion Canelo.

“I don’t want to rely on boxing all the time. I want to make sure I have something before my career is over,” he explained. “Right now, there are a lot of opportunities. I see [promoter] Eddie Hearn keep mentioning that Canelo is coming to light heavyweight. I could see him wanting to fight a Bivol or a Beterbiev first. 

“But there could be a shot there for me, maybe during Cinco de Mayo. I’m motivated to look good and win this fight against Johnson. I’d prefer to unify the titles. But I couldn’t turn down a Canelo payday.”

As 2021 comes to a close, it leaves us with plenty of memorable bouts. These are a handful of fights that would make 2022 a year to remember in boxing as well.

Here's what DAZN News came up with.

<h2>Tyson Fury vs. Anthony Joshua</h2>

Of course, Anthony Joshua must find a way to avenge his loss against unified heavyweight champion Oleksandr Usyk first. And WBC titleholder Tyson Fury expressed the desire of keeping busy and having a fight during the first quarter of the new year. If both men are successful in each of those respective tasks, a summer or fall blockbuster between the heavyweights would easily become the biggest fight between two British boxers, and one of the largest that the sweet science has ever seen, period.

Could the "Gypsy King" outbox and even finish Joshua? Or would "AJ" find a way to stop Fury and hand him his first pro loss? Any way you look at it, Fury vs. Joshua for undisputed glory in front of 100,000 fans and many more watching on pay-per-view would truly be a must-see scrap for the ages.

<h2>Errol Spence Jr. vs. Terence Crawford</h2>

Look, Terence Crawford defeating Shawn Porter in November accomplished a two-pronged feat in proving that "Bud" can rise to his competition in a grand way and that there isn't really a proverbial street to cross between Top Rank and PBC. Crawford, the WBO welterweight titleholder, expressing the ambition to walk away from Top Rank should make it all the more easier to force a unified tilt against IBF/WBC champion Errol Spence Jr.

The bigger issue would be resolving what would be a pretentious purse battle between the two, as each champ would attempt to leverage a greater payday than the other. Crawford-Porter showed that any fight can be made between any promotional outfits. Now, it just comes down to making this fight happen. It's the fight at 147 pounds and needs to be treated with such urgency, so we could see it happen in 2022 without risking the danger of it fading away for good.

<h2>Canelo Alvarez vs. David Benavidez</h2>

David Benavidez has publicly stated that he thinks he can pose a real threat to Canelo Alvarez in the ring.

Well, with Canelo chasing another stab at boxing history in the form of trying to fight WBC cruiserweight champion Ilunga Makabu next, Benavidez needs to be willing to meet the undisputed super middleweight king anywhere he goes. That means cruiserweight, light heavyweight or staying put at 168 pounds if need be, too.

You'd figure that his volume punching and switch-hitting style would translate at 175 pounds or higher. By continuing to win, the undefeated Benavidez can add to a groundswell for making this fight happen and put Canelo in a position where he can't say no to the young lion. What a fight it would be.

<h2>Josh Taylor vs. Teofimo Lopez Jr.</h2>

Not taking anything away from George Kambosos Jr., because he fought a great fight and did what he said he was going to do by defeating Teofimo Lopez Jr. to become the unified lightweight champion of the world in a big upset in 2021. However, you got the impression that if Lopez would have utilized a different strategy or at the least not overlooked the rugged Australian that he would have kept all his hardware in his possession.

Still, a big setback can equate to a major comeback if Lopez plays his cards right. Both Lopez and Josh Taylor are Top Rank fighters. The undefeated Taylor is set to make his first defense of his undisputed super lightweight crown against Jack Catterall in Glasgow on Feb. 26. Tyson Fury will be entitled to 80 percent of the purse for his title fight against Dillian Whyte, the WBC have confirmed.

The decision went in Fury’s favour after the two camps were deadlocked over negotiations, with Whyte’s team arguing for a more generous split for the mandatory challenger.

Fury is believed to have earned significantly more in his most recent fights - all three of the most recent bouts coming against Deontay Wilder - while Whyte fought Alexander Povetkin twice, with one event against Mariusz Wach.

Speaking to <a href="https://www.boxingscene.com/fury-whyte-heads-january-11-purse-bid-wbc-sets-80-20-split--163140?utm_source=dlvr.it&utm_medium=twitter" target="_blank">BoxingScene.com</a>, WBC president Mauricio Sulaiman explained the decision.

“We ordered the fight on Thursday,” he began. “The consideration for the 80/20 split comes from the purses the fighters have earned in their recent fights.”

“We cannot discuss any further details whatsoever due to the proceedings,” he continued. “The arbitration is still going on. Unfortunately, we’re in the process. We simply made the ruling today, and that’s where we are right now. That’s why we can’t make any further comments whatsoever.

“This has been a very frustrating process, but I am happy and hopeful that it will get done.”

Fury’s American co-promoter Bob Arum had previously claimed that Whyte wanted $10 million, which led to suggestions Fury would instead fight one of Andy Ruiz Jr. or Robert Helenius while the disagreement was resolved in arbitration

Floyd Mayweather has hinted that he will return for ‘exhibitions’ in Dubai next year.

The former world champion, who won belts in five divisions, was last in action this summer when he fought Logan Paul. There was no winner as part of the event rules, but he was clearly the more accomplished fighter against the YouTuber. 

Mayweather, now 44, last fought professionally when he took his record to 50-0 with a victory over UFC fighter Conor McGregor.

In December 2018 on New Year’s Eve he fought another exhibition in Tokyo, against kickboxer Tenshin Nasukawa, winning in the first round after three early knockdowns.

The now-retired fighter hinted that he would be back in an exhibition event, but was not clear if that included plans for him to return to the ring.

The DAZN Boxing Show weighed up Jake Paul’s knockout of Tyron Woodley vs. Gabe Rosado’s stoppage of Bektemir Melikuziev in their 2022 awards show.

The Uzbek fighter was cleaned out by the American back in June, hitting the canvas stone-cold, face first. Melikuziev had seemed to be dominating until the third-round knockout.

Paul, meanwhile, had put on a disappointing display in his rematch with the former UFC champion, until the sixth round when he landed a brutal right that similarly sent Woodley to the canvas.

Speaking on the <a href="https://www.dazn.com/en-GB/home/ArticleId:ayyie8jh3d0q1a28xfsc6kk46" target="_blank">DAZN Boxing Show</a>, Akin ‘Ak’ Reyes was clear that it was the best of the year.

“The former YouTuber, a professional fighter now, with five wins and four knockouts, Jake Paul’s knockout against Tyron Woodley was the most dramatic in my opinion.”

Barak Bess believed that the fact that Rosado’s knockout came against a seasoned boxer made it a little more impressive.

“I can see that it was a beautiful knockout by Jake Paul,” he conceded. “When I look at Gabriel Rosado, you add variables, you have two knockouts that were exactly the same. 

“Melikuziev fell exactly the same way: arms dropped, face first into the mat, boom. So the fall was exactly the same. Now, it wasn’t an accumulation, it was just one shot, especially Gabe Rosado’s. Because it’s the same, I want to throw a variable.

“Jake Paul was not an underdog. It was expected. Gabe Rosado was the opponent. Melikuziev got up before Woodley. It was a vicious knockout. These guys are boxers, if you step in the ring you’re a boxer, but Woodley was not a boxer.”

Demetrius Andrade could move up to 168lbs to set up a fight with Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez, according to Eddie Hearn. 

The undefeated American has struggled for a high profile fight for much of his career, despite holding the WBO middleweight belt. He has been linked with fights with Canelo, Gennadiy Golovkin and others, but nothing has come to fruition.

Matchroom head Eddie Hearn has often spoken of his frustration in pairing Andrade, and <a href="http://https://www.boxingscene.com/demetrius-andrade-head-168-bigger-fights-says-hearn--163129" target="_blank">BoxingScene.com</a> reported that a move up could be on the cards. 

“Demetrius Andrade had a good year. Not the flagship fights that we want, but nice and active. Great win against Quigley last time,” he said. “He's got the mandatory against Janibek [Alimkhanuly], but we need a bigger fight than that, in all honesty. So if we can't find it at middleweight, I think he'll move up to super middleweight and become mandatory there.” 

The WBO regulations would likely see Andrade step up a weight as the mandatory challenger for their current super middleweight champion, the undisputed Canelo.

Canelo is currently focused on a cruiserweight championship fight with WBC title holder Ilunga Makabu, but his camp have previously indicated he does not want to give up his current belt, meaning it may be some time before 33-year-old Andrade finally gets a fight he wants.

Garcia started 2021 looking set for a mandatory challenge against WBC champion Devin Haney, or another high profile fight - with Tank and Garcia exchanging words on FaceTime ahead of a potential match-up.

However Garcia spent most of the year out of the limelight dealing with mental health obstacles, and Davis was pushed hard in a win over Isaac Cruz. Both boxers need to come through in the ring to justify their hype, and Froch told <a href="https://www.skysports.com/boxing/news/12183/12501551/could-terence-crawfords-elusive-clash-against-errol-spence-jr-finally-be-delivered-as-a-dream-fight-for-2022" target="_blank">Sky Sports</a> that the pair match up well.

“Gervonta Davis against Ryan Garcia. It's a great fight,” he said. “I can remember seeing 'Tank' Davis for the first time in New York on the James DeGale vs Badou Jack bill. He had an elusive style, he threw big uppercuts and he brought excitement.

“Then you've got Ryan Garcia, who climbed off the canvas to stop Luke Campbell. They are two exciting fighters with fantastic ability coming together in an explosive clash. 

“What a fight! Someone has to lose their unbeaten record, so you know it's going to be a cracker.”

He'd just achieved his lifelong dream that January when he stopped Vyacheslav Glazkov in the third round to capture the vacant IBF heavyweight title. Up next would be a trip to England to faceoff with Anthony Joshua. But, unfortunately, things didn't go Martin's way on that fateful April evening across the pound as Joshua knocked him out in the second round to end the American's three-month title reign.  
 
Instead of sulking, Martin dug down deep and has won five of his last six, with the sole loss coming in a narrow decision loss to Adam Kownacki in September 2018 that could have gone either way. This run has vaulted Martin back into the thick of things in a loaded heavyweight division as he headlines on Saturday against <a href="https://www.dazn.com/en-US/news/boxing/luis-ortiz-vs-charles-martin-date-fight-time-tv-channel-and-live-stream/imo7a0r90dgn17muns9j7b39j" target="_blank">former two-time heavyweight title challenger Luis Ortiz</a>. When asked about the most significant difference in himself from the Joshua fight to this upcoming contest on New Year's Day, Martin (28-2-1, 25 KOs) starts not wanting to talk about it to opening up a little bit about his feelings towards the former two-time unified heavyweight champion and what he plans on doing about it.

"I don't really like to talk about that too much," Martin admits to DAZN News. "It just wasn't a fair shake overall. Even Joshua knows that. You think he’s in anybody else's DM that he defeated? Nah, man. He knows. But we don't want to talk about that. The difference is I got a lot more focus. I got a lot more discipline. I'm in the greatest shape I've ever been in my life. I'm more mature, and I'm in my prime right now. That's the funny thing about this game. We all come up, we all rise, and we all fall. At this point in my career, I'm better than Joshua. Ain’t no doubt about it. He softened up. I'm ready. Let's go. I'm gonna get my fight and my revenge. I call this “The Revenge Tour”.  
 
Looking at it, you might wonder, who's on "The Revenge Tour" hitlist? Martin didn't hesitate with his response. 
 
"Ortiz's on this revenge tour. Then we got Joshua, we got (Tyson) Fury, and we got Wilder," Martin said bluntly. 
 
Martin admitted he was in training camp to face Wilder earlier this year until an arbitrator ruled the latter was contractually owed a third fight with Fury. Currently, Fury is obligated for a mandatory WBC title defense with Dillian Whyte. At the same time, Joshua and unified champion Oleksandr Usykl are scheduled to meet sometime in 2022, and Wilder is without an opponent as he's recovering from his "Fight of the Year" with Fury back in October. Starting with Ortiz, Martin has a plan in mind if the situation plays out the way he'd like it to. 
 
"In the perfect world for me, I would love to get Joshua for sure," Martin said. "I want two fights with him. The first one don't even have to be in America. It could be wherever he wants it to be. Then the second one will be out here in my backyard. I want to spank that a— two times back-to-back just so he knows because before we leave this earth, you got to know (that) you (are) not a badder man than Charles Martin. I came from the real slums. It's a whole lot different over here. I had a fight every day. I used to hate fighting. I'm not a fighter. But that s— is put in me. It was instilled in me just by the way I grew up, where I grew up at. So I just want to prove that to him. You're not a bad motherf—. You're not. You're not bad like that, brother."
