‘A new feeling’: Patrick Mahomes and Travis Kelce open up on Kansas City Chiefs’ three-peat questgetty

The Kansas City Chiefs will head to New Orleans next month looking to achieve something that has never been done in Super Bowl history.

Should the Chiefs again overcome the Philadelphia Eagles in their rematch of 2023’s Super Bowl LVII, they will become the first team to win three Super Bowls in a row - a so-far elusive feat dubbed the ‘three-peat’.

Eight teams have won back-to-back Super Bowls in the six decades since the contest was first played, but none had made it back to the big game to give themselves the chance of a third straight win until the Chiefs overcame the Buffalo Bills on Sunday evening

The February 9th clash against the Philadelphia Eagles will see the Chiefs compete in their fifth Super Bowl in the past six seasons, and star duo Patrick Mahomes and Travis Kelce both discussed the potential of a three-peat following the win over the Bills.

"It's a new feeling right now, but I'm just excited," tight end Kelce, who, like Mahomes will be aiming to win a fourth Super Bowl ring next month, told the NFL Network.

"I'm for the guys that are doing this for the first time, trying to make it everything for them. But I know there's bigger fish to fry and that's the Philadelphia Eagles down there in New Orleans.

"We know they're gonna have a sour taste in their mouth from the last time we played them in the Super Bowl.

"That being said, we gotta go to work. We gotta go to work and make sure we're ready to handle it."

Quarterback Mahomes downplayed the possibility of a three-peat, as he outlined his process ahead of the big game.

“I put every single season as its own season,” he said in his post-match press conference. “Every team is different. You get new guys, you get guys that have to step up in different roles. I just go about my business and try to prepare everybody to be in the best possible situation to succeed.

“Obviously, it will be awesome. I think it will be something that I look back at the end of my career if we’re able to go out there and get that three-peat, but at the same time, you just treat it as one season and one Super Bowl run, which is always hard to do."
