NFL Insider Adam Schefter says Russell Wilson is still in "pole position" to be the Pittsburgh Steelers starter, but it may not be as clear cut as it once was.
Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin has previously said Wilson will be their starter, but the former Seattle Seahawks quarterback has been sidelined with a calf injury.
And according to Schefter, former Bears quarterback Justin Fields has taken advantage of Wilson's injury and has been impressing Steelers coaches in practice.
Speaking to the Pat McAfee Show, Schefter said: "Russell Wilson had that role position and we will see what happens when he gets back from his calf injury.
"But here is the thing, Justin Fields has been getting better and better with every practice and they love the guy, he is a natural leader and has support.
"Russell has the pole position, but when you're not practicing it gives someone else the opportunity and Justin Fields has taken advantage of that and impressed them with the way he played.
"We will see what Russell has to say about it when he gets back."
The Steelers begin their preseason action against the Houston Texans later this week.
