It had been such a promising start to the 2023 season for the rookie.

After such an exciting start to his NFL career, Anthony Richardson will now miss the remainder of the 2023 season after undergoing season-ending surgery on his shoulder.

Richardson, the fourth overall pick in this year's draft, threw three touchdowns and rushed for two more in the two games he played in full.

In Week 2, Richardson was injured during the second quarter but still had time to rush in two more touchdowns off three carries in that contest.

All the buzz surrounding Richardson will now be put on the back burner until next season when he will be able to return from injury.

Who are the back-up quarterbacks in Indianapolis?

Since Richardson's injury, the Colts have turned to veteran quarterback Gardner Minshew to lead the team.

The former Jacksonville Jaguar impressed in Weeks 2 and 3, but struggled last time out against his former team, throwing three interceptions in a 37-20 defeat.

The 27-year-old will take over the starting job for now at least, with the only other option at quarterback for the Colts being Sam Ehlinger.

Ehlinger played four games last season, finally throwing his first NFL touchdown in Week 18 against the Houston Texans.

The 25-year-old is set for back-up duties behind Minshew while Richardson recovers.
