The quarterback was due to become a free agent later this week.

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Baker Mayfield have agreed to terms on a new contract ahead of the start of free agency.

The team has confirmed the quarterback will sign a three-year deal to remain with the franchise after he led them to the playoffs last season.

According to the NFL Network, is worth up to $115million, with $50million in guaranteed money.

Mayfield was the first overall pick in the 2018 draft, when the Cleveland Browns selected him. After four seasons in Ohio, he had stints at the Carolina Panthers and LA Rams in 2022, before joining the Bucs on a one-year deal last season.

He would set career highs in passing yards (4,044) and touchdown passes (28) as he led Tampa Bay to the NFC South title with a 9-8 record. After seeing off the Philadelphia Eagles in the Wild Card round, the Bucs fell to the Detroit Lions in the Divisional round.

Mayfield’s re-signing comes after wide receiver Mike Evans agreed a new two-year deal to remain in Florida, as the Bucs have been able to bring back two key pieces of their offense.

Free agency begins officially on Wednesday, with the two-day legal tampering period getting underway on Monday afternoon.
