The San Francisco 49ers are spending the offseason plotting how they can go one better in 2024, after losing Super Bowl LVIII to the Kansas City Chiefs in overtime.
In a boost to Kyle Shanahan’s hopes, the Niners head coach will be able to bring back most of his key playmakers this season, including the likes of Brock Purdy, Christian McCaffrey, George Kittle and Deebo Samuel.
However, the issue of wide reciever Brandon Aiyuk’s future has been the subject of intense speculation in recent months, with the 2020 first-round draft pick seeking a new contract in an offseason where several wideouts have been handed big money deals.
Aiyuk is entering the final year of his rookie deal and with the 49ers training camp due to begin in three weeks no new deal appears imminent with a number of trade rumours continuing to swirl.
The player himself has now addressed the issue of his future and even namechecked to potential teams he could join.
“If I were to take a guess, probably a Niners uniform,” Aiyuk said on The Pivot Podcast when asked where he thinks he will be playing his football this season.
“Probably a Niners uniform, but if not a Niners uniform, probably a Washington Commander uniform. If not a Washington Commanders uniform, then probably a Steelers uniform.”
Aiyuk earned a place on the second-team All-Pro squad last year after catching 75 passes for 1,342 yards in the 49ers high octane offense.
