On day one of free agency, the Carolina Panthers traded superstar pass-rusher Brian Burns to the New York Giants.
In return, the Panthers received a second-round and fifth-round pick. Burns was one of Carolina's best players last season. The 25-year-old tallied eight sacks in 2023. Overall, Burns recorded 46 sacks for the Panthers.
However, Carolina was unable to agree on a contract extension with Burns, so they placed him on the Franchise Tag before trading him.
The move upset Panthers fans, including country music star Luke Combs.
Taking to social media, Combs said, "Carolina Panthers, WHAT ARE WE DOING?!?!? No first-round pick for McCaffrey a few years back, and now none for Burns?!?! Are we just firebombing the whole team here, or what? I usually don't comment on these things, but it's just becoming slow torture at this point."
The Panthers have had six consecutive losing seasons. Last season, they bottomed out with a league-worst 2-15 record. They have also seen star players leave the team. With anger and frustration rising against owner David Tepper, the Panthers must have a better 2024 campaign.
