A pair of teams who have missed the playoffs for several years square off on Week 1 as the Atlanta Falcons host the Carolina Panthers on Sunday.

The Falcons head into their third season under head coach Arthur Smith and GM Terry Fontenot, as the duo attempt to build upon a 2022 campaign that saw the team finish with a 7-10 record. Atlanta's preseason was a mixed bag as they won, tied and lost their three games, respectively, although the 24-0 defeat to the Pittsburgh Steelers to close out the preseason has to be a concern for Smith and Fontenot.

Meanwile, the Panthers also ended last season with a 7-10 record, and thanks to a trade with the Chicago Bears they were able to select quarterback Bryce Young with the No. 1 pick in the 2023 draft. Carolina had a preseason to forget, losing all three games.
