Dak Prescott is preparing for his ninth season as the Dallas Cowboys’ starting quarterback but with his contract ticking down, he has acknowledged there is a possibility it could be his final season with America’s Team.
Prescott is now in the final year of his contract, with both player and team still locked in negotiations over an extension that would see him remain in Dallas for the long term.
The likes of Jordan Love, Tua Tagovailoa, Jared Goff and Trevor Lawrence have all agreed to big-money extensions this offseason and given the deals they have signed, Prescott should expect a deal in the region of $60million-a-year.
The 31-year-old is in a strong negotiating position, given that his current contract has no-trade and no-tag clauses and he is well aware this could mean he does not finish his career with the Cowboys.
“Having a kid, your perspective changes a little bit in life,” Prescott told Fox 4. “A lot of quarterbacks have [played for other teams]. That’s just the business and nature of this game. That’s just me not being naive to that.
“It’s not something I look for, or prepare, even plan for, but if something like that happens, I’ll certainly be ready for it.”
Prescott’s comments come at the end of an offseason where both parties have publicly stated that they want to come to a deal and he added that he still has confidence an agreement can be reached.
“I’ve got a ton of confidence, but honestly, it’s not something I think about,” Prescott added. “I’m here in training camp and focused on this year. I’m on a contract for this year and that’s all I really care about.”
