The key Cowboys start was spotted earing a walking boot this week

With training camp just around the corner, Dallas Cowboys supporters were left concerned this week when quarterback Dak Prescott was photographed wearing a protective walking boot on vacation.

The Cowboys will convene in Oxnard, California on July 24 for the start of training camp, as their preparations for the 2024 NFL season go up a gear.

But after a summer where Prescott’s contract status has been a key talking point, the player himself has moved to allay any fears that he has a significant issue with the right ankle that he suffered a gruesome compound fracture-dislocation on in 2020.

The QB told the Fort Worth Star-Telegram that the walking boot is a part of the regular maintenance he has done on his angle since he suffered that serious injury.

“The same ankle, same issues,” he said, adding that he was wearing the boot because “the last time I went deep sea fishing my [ankle] swole up."

“I’m great,” he added, with the issue not expected to affect his preparation for the 2024 season.

Prescott led the league with 410 completions and 36 touchdown passes last season and is entering the final year of his contract with the Cowboys. No new deal has been agreed yet, with the quarterback market seeing the Detriot Lions hand Jared Goff a four-year, $212million extension, while Kirk Cousins joined the Atlanta Falcons as a free agent with a four-year $180million deal earlier this offseason.
