New Orleans Saints kicker Charlie Smyth had a NFL dream debut on Saturday night during his team's win over the Arizona Cardinals.
The Saints and Cardinals went head-to-head at State Farm Stadium in the first week of the 2024 preseason and it came down to a field goal kick in the closing stages.
With the Cardinals leading 14-13 with just five seconds remaining, Smyth, a former Gaelic football goalkeeper, stepped up to take the 37-yard kick and successfully converted.
This secured a 16-13 for the Saints as they got their preseason off to a winning start.
Smyth, who is a product of the NFL's International Player Pathway Programme, also received significant praise from Saints head coach Dennis Allen.
"I thought it was awesome," Allen said during his post game press conference.
"First kick in an American football game and for him to knock it through like that in a pressure situation was cool to see."
The Saints preparations for the upcoming season continue next weekend when they face the San Francisco 49ers at Levi's Stadium.
