A wild 48 hours in Jacksonville looks set to end with the Jaguars hiring their new head coach after a key exit and dramatic double U-turn.
Jags owner Shad Khan confirmed on Wednesday that general manager Trent Baalke was leaving the franchise after four years in Florida with them.
It came hours after it emerged Tampa Bay Buccaneers offensive coordinator Liam Coen had withdrawn himself from consideration for the vacant head coach job in Jacksonville.
Coen had looked set to remain in Tampa Bay with a wallet-busting pay rise in tow.
But now, according to the NFL Network, with Baalke out of the picture in Duval, Coen has agreed to become their new head coach.
The move is expected to be finalised later on Friday, with Coen set to replace Doug Pederson who was fired earlier this month after a three-year stint with the Jags that ended with a 4-13 finish last season.
Coen emerged as a frontrunner for the Jaguars job after leading the Bucs' offense into one of the most efficient in the league, ranking in the top four for total yards, passing yards and rushing yards per game, with quarterback Baker Mayfield enjoying the best season of his seven-year career.
The Jags will no doubt hope that the 39-year-old Coen will be able to have a similarly galvanising effect on Trevor Lawrence, who signed a huge new contract extension last season, only to go 2-8 as a starter during an injury-hit season.
