With the Chicago Bears getting set to call out Caleb Williams’ name to kick off the first round of the NFL Draft on Thursday evening, the first surprise of the night will come with the number two pick.
The Washington Commanders are widely expected to be choosing between quarterbacks Jayden Daniels and Drake Maye at number two, with real intrigue over who they select remaining as we enter the final 24 hours before the draft.
Recent media speculation has suggested that Washington is not the preferred destination for LSU quarterback Daniels, after the team invited him and fellow QBs Maye, J.J. McCarthy and Michael Penix Jr, to a simultaneous team visit that included a visit to a local Topgolf for a long-range driving competition.
But speaking to reporters at a ‘Play Football’ event with Special Olympics athletes on Wednesday, Daniels said he would have no issues going to the Commanders.
"I'm blessed to go wherever I'm called,” he said. "I'm blessed to go wherever I'm called.
"Whoever calls my phone, (when the) commissioner gets up and says my name, I'll be blessed, and they're going to get my all.
"That's the best … the best opportunity. I will say they believe in me, so I'm gonna put in the work."
Daniels also spoke about the Topgolf trip, admitting he is not much of a golfer.
"I just had fun with the guys," he added. "Just being able to interact with people throughout the process and obviously, you know, just go out there and have a little fun. So it was cool."
