L’Jarius Sneed deal highlights why Kansas City Chiefs had to trade defensive stargetty
The Super Bowl winners traded Sneed to the Tennessee Titans last week.

Cornerback L’Jaruis Sneed has agreed a huge contract extension with the Tennessee Titans following his trade from the Kansas City Chiefs.

The 27-year-old has agreed terms on a $76.4million, four-year deal with the Titans that will include a $20million signing bonus and $55million in guaranteed money.

The deal puts Sneed among the highest-paid cornerbacks in the league as it becomes clear why the Chiefs had to let one of the key players in their latest Super Bowl run leave the club.

The Titans were able to land Sneed for a 2025 third-round draft pick, with the two franchises swapping seventh-rounders in 2024.

This came after the Chiefs had previously used the franchise tag on Sneed, knowing that a trade was likely in order to ensure they did not lose him for nothing.

Chiefs head coach lamented the loss of one of his ‘all-time favourite guys’ on Monday when he discussed Sneed’s exit, as he hinted that salary cap reasons were the deciding factor in trading the cornerback away.

His exit came after the Chiefs had to dig deep to secure the future of another of their key defensive pieces, with Chris Jones agreeing a five-year $95million deal shortly before free agency began.
