Things did not go according to plan in 2022.

New England Patriots quarterback Mac Jones says he is ready for a "fresh start" in 2023 having improved relations with head coach Bill Belichick.

After a decent rookie season back in 2021, Jones and the Patriots were expected to kick on last year but went dramatically in the other direction.

Jones' season quarterback rating of 36.1 ranked 28th in the NFL, as he threw just 14 touchdowns alongside 11 interceptions in a bitterly disappointing campaign.

For the 2023 season, Belichick has brought Bill O'Brien back to the Patriots as offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach, and the pair have been working closely to improve Jones' game.

"I think the biggest thing that we've all talked about is just having a fresh start," Jones told the media at the Patriots training camp.

"I think there's a lot of learning experiences from last year that we've talked about and this year, it's all about just working together.

"You've got to come up with a plan, obviously talk about it, and then execute it, so I'm excited for that part of it."

Asked about his relationship with Belichick and the other coaches, Jones added: "I think we're good.

"At the end of the day, he [Belichick] does a great job explaining defenses and all those things that can help a quarterback, especially in the red zone because it's a little bit tighter down there.

"I think O'Brien does a great job as well, just explaining everything, and Evan [Rothstein, assistant quarterbacks coach], so it's kind of those three guys that you can lean on."
