The New York Jets are filling in another position of need in their offense.

The New York Jets have reportedly agreed a deal with free-agent wide receiver Mike Williams in another boost to Aaron Rodgers’ offense.

The former LA Chargers wideout is signing a one-year deal worth up to $15million after visiting with the team on Tuesday, according to the NFL Network.

Following his release by the LA Chargers last week, Williams was scheduled to meet with several teams, including the Carolina Panthers and Pittsburgh Steelers, but it would appear that the Jets have not let him leave their facilities without a deal being struck.

The 29-year-old suffered a season-ending torn ACL in Week 3 last season, with spells out injured being a common theme since he entered the NFL as the seventh overall pick of the 2017 draft.

During his seven seasons with the Chargers, Williams has played in 88 games, hauling in 309 catches for 4,806 yards with 31 touchdowns. His most productive season came in 2021 when he made 76 catches for 1,146 yards and nine TDs.

The Jets have looked to strengthen their offense during free agency ahead of the expected return of Aaron Rodgers for the new season after the former Green Bay Packers quarterback suffered a season-ending Achilles injury during the team’s first offensive series of the season back in September.

Former Dallas Cowboys standout Tyron Smith has been added at left tackle, while John Simpson and Morgan Moses have also been signed to improve the offensive line, with Williams’ arrival addressing what was another need on the Jets offense.

The Jets finished with a 7-10 record last term as they missed out on the playoffs for the thirteenth consecutive season - the longest current postseason drought in the NFL.They have not finished with a winning record since the 2015 season.
