Jets fans are getting excited about their new running back.

The New York Jets were back in preseason action on Saturday after their defeat in the Hall of Fame game against the Cleveland Browns last week.

The Jets travelled to Charlotte to face the Carolina Panthers, and dominated the first half against the NFC South side.

One play in particular got Jets fans excited, as rookie running back Israel Abanikanda impressed once again after scoring a touchdown in the Hall of Fame game.

The fifth-round rookie out of Pitt almost had a first-half touchdown as he found a gap in the Panthers defensive line before beating the safety with a brilliant spin move that deserved a score.

Unfortunately for Abanikanda and the Jets, the run - which was initially ruled a touchdown - was reviewed and the running back's knee was down just short of the goal line.

The Jets are hopeful star running back Breece Hall will be back fit for the start for the regular season, but in Abanikanda they may have found an explosive back-up option.
