NFL announces Week 5 AFC and NFC players of the weekgetty
These six players stood out in the fifth week of action.

On Wednesday, the NFL announced the players of the week for the AFC and NFC in Week 5.

AFC

Offense: Lamar Jackson, Baltimore Ravens

Jackson receives his 11th player of the week nod after a dominant outing in Baltimore's 41-38 win over the Cincinnati Bengals. The QB threw for 348 yards on 26 of 42 attempts, with four touchdowns and zero interceptions, adding 55 rushing yards as he finished with a 119.9 pass rating.

Defense: Pat Surtain II, Denver Broncos

Surtain did it all in Week 5, recording three tackles, two interceptions and a touchdown in Denver’s 34-18 victory against the Las Vegas Raiders. His TD came by way of a 100-yard pick-6, just the third interception-return in franchise history of 100 yards or more.

Special teams: Ka'imi Fairbairn, Houston Texans

Fairbairn was perfect in two PATs and three field goal attempts, providing stability in offense for Houston in a 23-20 victory over Buffalo. His walk-off FG was 59 yards, longest in the league in Week 5.

NFC

Offense: Kirk Cousins, Atlanta Falcons

It was a record-setting night for Cousins on Thursday, as the veteran QB set the Falcons' single-game mark with 509 passing yards in their 36-30 overtime win over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. He connected on four touchdown passes and finished with a 114.8 rating en route to becoming the first player in league history to throw for 450 yards or more with three separate teams.

Defense: Xavier McKinney, Green Bay Packers

McKinney has been the picture of consistency this season for Green Bay, becoming the fourth player since 1970 with a takeaway in each of his team’s first five games of a season. He accomplished the feat in a 24-19 Week 5 victory over the Los Angeles Rams, recording three tackles, two passes defensed, an interception and a fumble recovery during the game.

Special teams: Isaiah Simmons, New York Giants

Simmons changed the game for the Giants with a block on a game-tying field goal attempt by the Seattle Seahawks with 1:05 remaining, helping seal his team's 29-20 victory.
