Sunday’s NFC Championship game saw the Philadelphia Eagles thrash the Washington Commanders 55-23 as Nick Sirianni’s side made it through to their second Super Bowl in three years.
The Commanders had no answer for the Eagles' ground attack, with Philadelphia rushing for seven touchdowns - the most in a playoff game since the 1940 Chicago Bears beat Washington 73-0, the biggest winning margin in NFL history.
The Eagles’ infamous ‘tush push’ play was a key part of their offensive strategy, and with the Commanders desperate to stop it during a fourth-quarter goalline stand, they almost fell foul of perhaps the most obscure rule in the NFL rulebook.
The Commanders were called for offside three plays in a row, with linebacker Frankie Luvu twice launching himself over both sets of linemen before the snap.

This caused referee Shawn Hochuli to warn the Commanders that should they continue to commit this penalty, they had the power to award Philadelphia a touchdown.
A rule against ‘palpably unfair acts’ has been part of officials’ statutes for decades, but there are no recorded cases of it ever being used.

In the end, this draconian rule was not needed, as the Eagles duly tush pushed their way to a touchdown on the next play as the hosts put the game beyond the reach of the Commanders.
In scoring seven rushing touchdowns on Sunday night, the Eagles’ total for the season moved to 39, three shy of the NFL record that the Eagles set two years ago, when they lost to the Chiefs in Super Bowl LXVII.
The two sides will now face a rematch in New Orleans next week, live on DAZB after the Chiefs edged past the Buffalo Bills 32-29 in the AFC Championship game.
