Fears emerged over the fitness of Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes ahead of Sunday’s AFC Championship game when the two-time Super Bowl MVP was listed on the team’s latest injury report.

The Chiefs are preparing to host the Buffalo Bills at Arrowhead Stadium this weekend as they continue their quest for a historic threepeat of Super Bowl victories.

Mahomes led his side to a 23-14 victory over the Houston Texans last weekend, throwing for 177 yards and a touchdown and looked to be back to full fitness following the high ankle sprain that he suffered in a Week 15 win over the Cleveland Browns.

Mahomes did not miss any time with that injury, but his presence on Wednesday’s injury report initially raised fears of a lingering issue.

However, the quarterback was a full participant in Wednesday’s practice to help ease concerns that he could be a doubt ahead of his latest showdown against Josh Allen and the Bills.

In 2022, Mahomes suffered a high-ankle sprain in the Divisional Round, but would play through the pain and led his side to victory over the Philadelphia Eagles in Super Bowl LVII.

One player that the Chiefs will miss this weekend is wide reciever Mecole Hardman, with head coach Andy Reid confirming that the 2019 second-rounder, who has played in all three of the team’s recent Super Bowl victories, will remain on injured reserve for the rest of the postseason.

Should the Chiefs emerge triumphant in what will be their seventh consecutive AFC Championship game, they will face the winners of the NFC clash between the Philadelphia Eagles and Washington Commanders.
