The NFC East rivals are both leading the charge this term, making this crucial encounter all the more fascinating.

A season-defining encounter may well await the Philadelphia Eagles and the Washington Commanders when the pair meet for the first time this year in a Week 11 encounter.

It's first against second in the NFC East division, with both out to bolster their chances beyond the midpoint of the 2024 NFL season, available with NFL Gamepass on DAZN.

The Eagles have notched a 7-2 record so far this term, registering as many wins as the Commanders - but at 7-3, the latter's extra loss counts against them at this juncture.

With only one spot assured in the NFC East division definitively up for grabs, both know that every victory counts as they approach the final month-and-a-half of action.

Form will be with the hosts, who are on a five-game hot streak, but their visitors will need to rally from a narrow 28-27 loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers.

But just how do these two teams stack up against each other, and what does their current form tell us about this matchup?

Here's everything you need to know about the head-to-head record between the Eagles and the Commanders.

Eagles vs. Commanders historical form guide

One of the most storied matchups in NFL history, the Eagles and the Commanders are the fifth-most played fixture in competition history, with a rivalry dating back to 1934.

Thanks to sharing their place in the NFC East division, they have met like clockwork twice every year for generations now, ensuring their fans have got to grips plenty of times.

Subsequently, playoff matches have been at a minimum - they have only met once in the postseason, in the 1990-91 NFC Wild Card round.

Then, Washington prevailed with a 20-6 victory over Philadelphia, courtesy of a TD from three-time Super Bowl champion Art Monk along the way.

It marked revenge for the Commanders - then known as the Redskins - after the events of their meeting two months prior in November 1990.

Then, it was the Eagles who prevailed in the infamous Body Bag Game, where nine opposition players had to leave the field with injury against a ferocious opponent.

At the time, Washington were two-time Super Bowl champions, while Philadelphia had none - but both have prevailed in the biggest game of all since on one occasion each.

This term however, there's not too much to split either side, with the Eagles just edging the race to take the automatic qualification spot for the 2024-25 NFL play-offs.

With only two losses this term - and their last way back at the end of September - Philadelphia have embarked on a five-game winning run to take control of the NFC East pool.

That has included close wins over the Cleveland Browns and the Jacksonville Jaguars, as well as demolition jobs against the New York Giants and the Dallas Cowboys.

In between, there has also been a win over the Cincinnati Bengals, to keep them ticking over as Nick Sirianni plots another return to the Super Bowl for the Eagles.

As for the Commanders, they have broadly recovered in fine fashion from an opening weekend loss to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers to stay firmly in the hunt.

They have not managed to rack up five straight wins unlike their rivals however, having lost to the Baltimore Ravens in Week 6 and then the Pittsburgh Steelers in Week 10.

Two wins over the New York Giants have been among the highlights, but nothing might top the Madhouse in Maryland that saw them defeat the Chicago Bears.

There, rookie QB Jayden Daniels through a 52-yard Hail Mary that was tipped at the goal line to Noah Brown by Tyrique Stevenson as time expired for a walk-off touchdown.
