One match of the 2024 NFL season remains, with the Philadelphia Eagles and Kansas City Chiefs set to do battle for the Vince Lombardi trophy in New Orleans on February 9.

Understandably, the spotlight is on what should be a fascinating Super Bowl LIX tussle, but for the 30 other teams the offseason has already begun, with the date of March 12, which sees the start of free agency, circled on their calendars.

Every team will have different priorities heading into free agency, with a number of sides looking for an answer at the quarterback position. DAZN News takes a look at the best QBs who are currently set to head to free agency.

Sam Darnold

A contender for the NFL Comeback Player of the Year award, Sam Darnold enjoyed the best season of his seven-year pro career in 2024, leading the Minnesota Vikings to a 14-3 regular season record on the back of 4,319 yards passing and 35 touchdown passes.

His value may have taken a ding following the two poor losses that ended the Vikings season, but the 2018 third-overall draft pick has proved he can be a reliable NFL starter for a QB-needy team, such as the Las Vegas Raiders or New York Giants.

Justin Fields

The 2021 first-round selection will be hoping that he did enough with his limited snaps in Pittsburgh this season to convince a team that he can follow in the footsteps of the likes of Darnold and Baker Mayfield and enjoy a mid-career resurgence.

The 25-year-old showed more poise in the pocket in 2024 and if can align with a team and offensive coordinator that is able to fully weaponise his dual-threat ability, he can continue to progress.

Russell Wilson

Wilson went 6-5 as a starter for the Steelers and can be considered a safe pair of hands, but will turn 37 next season, so the best he can hope for is likely to be a bridging role where he can help mentor a rookie QB.

He has been linked with a Pete Carroll reunion in Las Vegas, which would make sense, so long as the pair have rebuilt their bridges following a tough ending to their time together in Seattle.

Jameis Winston

The ten-year veteran started seven games for the Cleveland Browns this season, with his Week 13 performance against the Denver Broncos epitomising exactly what you can expect from the 2015 first-overall draft pick. Winston was at his gunslinging best when he threw for a franchise record 497 yards and four touchdowns, but he also threw three interceptions, two of which were returned for touchdowns in a 41-32 loss.

Winston should remain a useful back-up, but not the kind of player you want to trust to lead your franchise moving forward.

Marcus Mariota

Taken one spot after Winston at number two in the 2015 Draft, Mariota has also failed to meet the expectations thrust upon him and spending most of his career as a back-up.

The 31-year-old spent the 2024 campaign with the Washington Commanders, where his experience will have helped rookie phenom Jayden Daniels adjust to life in the NFL.

Again, Mariota will not find a starting job this offseason, but should find a home somewhere on a roster.

The likes of Cooper Rush, Joe Flacco, Tyler Huntley, Jimmy Garoppolo and Taylor Heinicke are also due to hit the market this year, in what looks like a free agent crop short on quality starters.
